ANSYS Events, Webinars and Workshops This Week – April 30 to May 4

image of Learning text on a keyboardToday kicks off the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), the world’s foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection. If you’re attending, please do stop by our Booth 5001 and say hello!

Our Ask-the-Expert series continues with two webinars on Wednesday. Register for one or both.

There are also three Confidence By Design Workshops this week, so make sure you sign-up to attend. You’ll find these in Denver, Orlando and Salt Lake City, more details below.

ANSYS Ask-the-Expert Series

Analyzing Composites Using ANSYS Mechanical and Mechanical APDL 14.0

Wednesday, May 02, 2012
9:00 A.M. EDT, 1:00 P.M. GMT

Designing complex composite structures pose many challenges for today’s design teams. To successfully engineer layered composites, the design team must define the optimal material formula, which depends on the number of layers along with the thickness and relative orientation of each layer. They must assess how the finished product will perform under actual working conditions by realistically predicting the everyday stresses and deformations, ultimate strength and progressive damage over time, and a range of failure criteria, including delamination and cracking.

This webinar will explain how to efficiently model complex composite structures and assess their potential failure modes using ANSYS Mechanical and Mechanical APDL 14.0. It will begin with a short presentation. After the presentation, a panel of experts from the ANSYS development and technical services groups will answer questions live via WebEx.

Solver Numerics in ANSYS Fluent 14.0 for Single Phase Flows

Wednesday, May 02, 2012
4:00 P.M. EDT, 8:00 P.M. GMT

In this webinar we discuss the new solver enhancements in ANSYS 14.0, which improve the rate and robustness of convergence and accuracy of CFD simulations. Topics highlighted in the webinar include:

  • Converging solution faster through higher order term relaxation
  • Transient accuracy for MDM
  • Enhancements to hybrid initialization

These improvements in the ANSYS Fluent CFD solver will benefit the single phase applications in general and some of the features, such as, convergence acceleration for stretched meshes in the density based solver will help compressible flows in particular. A few exemplary industrial applications will be discussed to demonstrate the benefits of the enhancements on single phase flow robustness and convergence rate to explain how to use these new features.

eArtius and ANSYS Stretch the Limits of Multi-Objective Design Optimization

Tuesday, May 01, 2012
9:00 A.M. EDT, 1:00 P.M. GMT

Thursday, May 03, 2012
4:00 P.M. EDT, 8:00 P.M. GMT

Newly developed eArtius add-in for ANSYS Workbench implements a 1-2-3 approach, and allows engineers to start optimizing complex simulation models without any training or learning curve. The add-in provides easy access to the leading-edge eArtius design optimization technology, which allow optimization of simulation models with dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of design variables, and speeds up even the most complex multidisciplinary design optimization projects.

The webinar focuses on this fast and scalable design optimization technology, and how to use the eArtius algorithms embedded in Workbench. Dr. Vladimir Sevastyanov will elaborate on the algorithms’ unique capability to optimize computationally expensive simulation models directly with only a few model evaluations to move from a given design to a desired solution.
