ANSYS Maxwell 18 – Conquer the New Demands of Electromechanical Design and Power Electronics

As you can imagine, there are many conversations at ANSYS centered around the simulation industry and current engineering trends. Sometimes during the conversations with my colleagues that handle the microwave and RF communication and signal and power integrity sectors of our business, I get the feeling that electromechanical design and power electronics is boring. Why do we want to talk about simulation of devices that have been around for a century like electric motors and transformers?   Continue reading

SGI and ANSYS Achieve New World Record in HPC

Looking back at the past couple of years of extraordinary joint engineering projects SGI and ANSYS have undertaken, it is clear to me that when a synergetic hardware and software partnership is established you, our joint customers, are the clear beneficiary. To that end, I would like to walk you through four such examples.

The first example was outlined over a year ago in my ANSYS guest blog, “Solving the Impossible Electromagnetic Simulation with HPC” where with a “grand challenge” benchmark we jointly demonstrated that the SGI® UV platform and ANSYS HFSS software could solve very large, high frequency electromagnetics problems like cosite analysis and radar cross section (RCS) analysis, as well as allow multiple frequency sweeps to be run without running out of computer system memory. 8 Myths Debunked for Engineering Simulation in the Cloud

Although businesses are increasingly using cloud computing for engineering simulation, many misconceptions still surround cloud-based simulation.

This post debunks the leading misconceptions about cloud computing, and, in doing so, will assist engineering and IT managers, as well as directors, as they make decisions regarding computing resources. While dispelling these misconceptions, I will share resources and provide insight to help organizations steer around possible failure points as they consider cloud computing. Continue reading

Enterprise Simulation on the Public Cloud: Why Now?

ansys-enterprise-cloudToday, we announced our new ANSYS Enterprise Cloud solution, a combined service and software solution designed to help our global accounts move simulation into the public cloud. Based on my own discussions with customers, the solution is well-matched to current trends and business challenges. Let me explain. Continue reading

Six Myths of High-Performance Computing

six myths of high performance computingLooking back at my notes from conversations with many engineers during our recent ANSYS Convergence Conferences, I must admit that I still came across some myths and misconceptions about high-performance computing (HPC) for engineering simulation. Let me share six really striking ones with you:

  1. HPC is available on supercomputers only
  2. HPC is only useful for CFD simulations
  3. I don’t need HPC – my job is running fast enough
  4. Without internal IT support, HPC cluster adoption is undoable
  5. Parallel scalability is all about the same, right?
  6. HPC software and hardware are relative expensive
