A number of new and exciting workflow enhancements were included in ANSYS SCADE 17.2 for those who are validating and testing embedded software. In this blog, I’ll cover the top 3 enhancements.
Virtual System Testing Using Simplorer Entry
In ANSYS 17.2, all SCADE Suite users can immediately simulate and analyze virtual system prototypes thanks to the bundling of Simplorer Entry.
One of the main objectives of embedded software users is to perform closed-loop testing to tune the software application — as early as possible. As a best practice, embedding the application within a virtual environment is a great way to reduce testing costs. It can be performed first with simplified model of the environment using Modelica language then moved to high-fidelity models. Continue reading
Last summer, we shared with you some of the advances in ANSYS 16.2 as they related to virtual systems prototyping, including how you can optimize your product development process and improve collaboration among different departments and disciplines. I’m happy to let you know that we’ve continued to enhance our systems offering with the latest release of ANSYS Simplorer in ANSYS 17.0.
I’m personally most excited about the native support for Modelica in this new version of ANSYS Simplorer. Why? ANSYS Simplorer users will be delighted to know that you can create and assemble models faster than ever using Modelica models. Native support for the Modelica language allows you to import Modelica models directly into Simplorer. New library components provide access to hundreds of additional mechanical and fluid component models for complex electrified systems. Continue reading
The objective of simulation software is to inform design choices and provide validation results that include systems-level qualities, properties, characteristics, functions, behavior and performance insight. The simulation solution needs to go beyond the parts, or engineering disciplines of the design, and accurately describe the interacting effects of these parts as well as an accurate view into the detail of how these parts perform — essentially a virtual system. System Simulation. It is an activity that can be defined broadly, and for many organizations it represents an aspiration for a type of engineering analysis that spans departments and disciplines and doesn’t fall into the familiar buckets of 3-D structures, fluids and electromagnetics. In contrast to 3-D multiphysics simulation, which seeks to understand coupling effects of different physical phenomena in the detailed design of individual components, multi-domain system simulation is used to analyze the interactions of many components operating together as a system, including software components describing embedded control and user interfaces. Improving Productivity with New Features ANSYS 14.5 for Geometry and Meshing

A typical simulation workflow requires reading geometry, cleaning it, creating a closed body, generating mesh and reviewing mesh quality. For having a hex dominant mesh, additional geometry decomposition steps may be required. This process can be tedious.
In ANSYS 14.5, there are host of new features in ANSYS DesignModeler (DM) and ANSYS Meshing (AM) that makes preprocessing faster, more efficient and hence resulting in improved productivity for CFD and Mechanical workflows. These enhancements include support of newer CAD releases, usability for DM and AM, improved performance while dealing with large sized CAD geometry and hex dominant mesh in AM. Continue reading

Recently, several gas stations in the state of California – major brands and independents alike – made national headlines when the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline topped the $5 mark. USA Today reported that one independent station even topped the $6 mark!
Admittedly, this unprecedented price spike could be traced back to a series of closures and unexpected shutdowns at California-based petroleum refineries. Although prices are expected to ease as some of these refineries come back online – and switch over to producing the cheaper winter-blend mixture before the end of October – the incident serves as yet another painful reminder of how volatile gas prices have been over the last decade.
But while the cost of petroleum trends upward, the cost of lithium ion (LiO) battery assemblies is actually going down. And while this is slowly but surely making the batteries – and the electric vehicles/hybrid electric vehicles (EVs/HEVs) that they power – more competitive, much work still remains to be done before they can truly be considered a viable alternative to the internal combustion engine (ICE).
